This extremely rare crystal opal bivalve full shell specimen/gem was mined on the Old 15 Mile opal field of Coober Pedy Australia.

Collectors specimens like this are increasingly rare due to the major fields being mostly worked out and sharply declining mining activity.

This specimen displays stunning green blue fire running through the piece from skin to skin and has been left with its pristine natural fossil definition apart from a couple of polished windows on some of the best colour..

Star Mountain Gems has supplied genuine quality natural Australian opal at unbeatable prices to the world for over 15 years.

We are second generation, trade certified (Certificate 3 in opal industries practices) and have over 25 years of experience in mining, cutting, jewelry manufacture and wholesaling rough opal, cut opal and jewelry.

WEIGHT: 48.9 carats.

DIMENSIONS: Around 39 mm by 30 mm by 12 mm thick.

BRIGHTNESS: A nice 3.5 out of 5 all over.

This stone would probably yield 12 to 15 carats of gem opal but is possibly better left as a world class specimen.

Also use the ruler as your guide to size (IN INCHES)

We do not sell opal simulants of ANY sort. All of our opal is 100% guaranteed Natural Australian Opal.

The color variations in some photos are due to different light angles and distances. All of our auctions are photographed with macro settings under a 60 watt incandescent lamp.We have found this the best way to bring you a true as possible representation of the stones you will receive.

Please check the dimensions carefully as the opal will not be as big in your hand as it looks on your monitor! Also some monitor settings will cause white based opal to look darker than it actually is.Please check the description carefully before bidding and view your purchased rough opal wet in sunlight or in a dark room with a direct light source ie: desk lamp, down light etc. (As photographed and practiced throughout the opal industry).
